THE INNOVATIVE IKEA STORE AT WESTBAHNHOF.
Residents and visitors to Vienna's city centre have been able to admire the innovative IKEA store at Westbahnhof since 2021. Unlike traditional locations, it does not offer a self-service furniture hall or car parks, but a green façade, a roof terrace and a well thought-out mobility concept.
The seven-storey building on Mariahilfer Strasse, designed by querkraft architekten ZT GmbH, impresses with glazed elements and metre-high trees that create a fresh microclimate. The 160 trees lower the temperature in the building and increase the humidity. The roof terrace offers a marvellous view over Vienna and is also accessible outside IKEA opening hours. On four floors, customers will find the complete IKEA range, a furniture exhibition, planning studios and catering areas. Small products can be taken away directly, larger items are delivered within a day. The location can be reached on foot, by bike, underground or tram, as there are no parking spaces available.
